Reggae is tha ting in Nairobi! You can attend a Dancehall party or enjoy live Reggae music concerts almost every day in town. One of the high-quality, aspiring reggae bands is TuneDem which started in 2007 and is based in Nairobi.

The founding member Charles Kepha had admired Reggae music all the way from primary school. Inspired by a classmate who would talk and sing with a native Jamaican accent, Kepha soon began composing Reggae tunes and rhymes. Ambitious to establish a music career, he extended his interest and learnt to play a couple of instruments. Later he recruited more members from his close circle of friends until the band was complete. Currently the band consists of 12 members.
TuneDem released their first album called Foundation in 2011. It consists of 8 songs that represent an authentic Reggae sound made in Kenya. Big up!

Nairobi is the largest city in East Africa with a population of more than 3 million people. The city faces rapid urbanisation which requires an urgent need for the development of architectural and urban design solutions that seek to inform the planning and architecture of future Nairobi.

Dreams of Nairobi is a themed architectural research and design initiative that culminates in an exhibition of 10 exemplary projects that offer the best responses to the specific urban design issues of Nairobi City. All projects were chosen according to their sensitivity to principles of Green design and sustainability. In addition, all projects offered a direct response to economic needs and aligned themselves with the plans considered by Vision 2030.

The exhibition is organised and curated by African Urban Futures, a think tank based in Nairobi. Its key focus area is based on the research and development of actionable scalable architecture and urban design projects that are informed by the idea of sustainable design and Green architecture.

Album Launch: Ekori Ekoromwe – Akololog Habrikah, Jan. 11 2013 @ Goethe Institut

Album Launch
Date: January 11, 2013
Venue: Goethe Institut Auditorium
Time: 8 pm
Entry: Free

Jackson Ero Nasil aka Ekori Ekoromwe was born in the pastoralist community of Turkana who reside in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. Being the first born in a family of four, he was forced to drop out of school to fend for his siblings. Being the family’s sole bread winner, things were difficult but his ambitions and dreams kept him going. Deep down he had a strong passion for music – inspired by his tribe’s rich culture of soulful traditional songs. This came naturally for Ekori since his late father was a musician. His passion for music grew more and more and he has over the years matured his talent using his music as a tool to enlighten his people.

Ekori has successfully completed his first album entitled Akololog Habrikah, meaning ‘Son Of Africa’. His music, written in Turkana language, is rich in African rhythm and melody, and captivates both the listeners who do and those who don’t understand his dialect. The songs are basically about spreading peace and reconciliation among his fellow nomadic tribesmen, describing the situation of continued violence among the Turkana, Pokot and Marille from Ethiopia.
