The central character is George, successful, overworked architect, with a willful daughter Fiona, a talented but unfulfilled wife, Joanna, a secretary whose efficiency and loyalty cover a deeper passion, and an urbane business partner who recommends to George a therapeutic affair to take his mind off all his pressures. Along comes Gina , beautiful, clever, and on the face of it aggressively feminist,to fill this prescription.
But this play is no average Knockabout farce, and the complications that ensure raise thought-provoking questions on the easy assumptions we tend to make about modern manners. Where, for instance, does Gina’s feminism come into the heart and soul commitment she demands from George? What triggers Joanna’s drinking- frustration(sexual or artistic) or simply lack of loving kindness? George’s charm may be strong enough to command a remarkable degree of loyalty…but his teenage daughter understands what lies beneath the charm…

Play: Love by Shakespeare, Apr. 5-20 2013 @ Phoenix Theatre

Love by Shakespeare
LOVE BY SHAKESPEARE: Directed by Robin Denault

Dates: April 5-20, 2013
Venue: Phoenix Theatre
RSVP: or 020-2225506 or 0705 589 722

A collage of three of the Bard’s most recognized plays: Romeo and Juliet, Othello and A Midsummer Night’s Dream… Some of the characters from A Midsummer Night’s Dream have escaped the world of Shakespeare, that scoundrel, and stumbled onto ours. As luck would have it, they wander onto a stage where coincidentally an audience is standing by. They will spend the next hour and a half convincing this assembly of theatre goers that love is but a game for fools and Shakespeare, that scoundrel, masterfully exploited that foolishness to create some of the best and deadliest love stories ever told.
