About

One Off is very proud to host a couple of thought provoking exhibitions by two of its Gallery Artists:  James Mbuthia will open his show titled ‘Visual Memories’ and Anthony Okello will open his exhibition titled ‘Between Losing and Finding’.

Both artists work in oil on canvas and both painters investigate the challenges of loss through the last three years.  Using vastly different lenses and with particularly personal perspectives on their surroundings, it is fascinating to compare such contrasting explorations

Exhibition: Conversation in Silence by James Mbuthia, May 5-22 2018 @ One Off Contemporary

One Off is proud to invite you to an exhibition of new paintings by James Mbuthia; “Conversation in Silence”.

Opening: May 5, 2018
Venue: One Off Contemporary
Time: noon – 5 pm

Until May 22, 2018

“Conversation in Silence” at One Off features new works made over the last one year and is a continuation of the artist’s exploration of telling stories using imagery generated from sounds and using nature as his point of departure in his art making. He says it is a culmination of paintings that have been produced as a result of him sitting, observing, enjoying and silently communicating with nature.

As a well-established Kenyan artist, James Mbuthia needs little introduction. Often called the ‘Chagall of Kenya’, Mbuthia’s latest works are true to type. Informed by his surroundings, environmental and social issues within his community, Mbuthia has produced a charming series of paintings.
