KENYA NIGHTS 4TH ANNIVERSARY
A year ago Kenya Nights had their first ever event at the Tree House Club in Nairobi’s party district; Westlands. It was on that night that this dedicated group of like-minded individuals came together to put on arguably the best party of November 2012. A great line-up of local underground DJs and the surprise cherry on the cake; Klartraum’s Nadja Lind. The night made history.
The years are now flying by, and Kenya Nights is now firmly embedded in Kenya’s nightlife culture. With an impressive array of events under their wings, the brother and sister team of Rizwan and Sadia have made serious waves in the entertainment industry. Now comes the time to celebrate the fourth year of kick-ass events, so please join us to raise a toast to the best thing in town this November, here’s presenting… THE KENYA NIGHTS 4TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY!
The Kenya Nights Crew will be bringing the noise with some very talented acts on this auspicious occasion. The lethal sounds of Just A Band’s BLINKY BILL, the flying Frenchman JEAN MARIE, ERIK, and Techno master MAX MELESI. There will be an extra special guest from the USA, the one and only JASON BOVA. The San Francisco native will have to be the highlight of the night, with his top notch groovy ghetto funk tracks. It all goes down at the Tree House Club, the place where it all began. Mark your calendars and cancel any other plans as 29th November is set to rock your box!

Winyo is a singer and songwriter of great sensitivity and he also plays the guitar, backed by his 4 piece band of accomplished musicians. Winyo derives his music and musical strength from his forefathers whose music was rich in melody and traditional rhythmic patterns. His musical style ranges from traditional Luo melodies infused with witty story lines, afro fusion and afro jazz, to a contemporary interpretation of Benga, transformed into an authentic acoustic sound. His powerful yet mellow vocals are the icing on the cake that makes listening to Winyo, an almost heavenly experience. Winyo sings in his paternal language of Dholuo, Swahili and English. His stories address a myriad of social issues ranging from the plight of homeless children to courtship and love stories.
A special edition of Winyo’s debut CD as a solo artist titled Benga Blues, was released in Europe as an EP while he was on a tour that saw him perform in Germany, Italy, Romania, and France. The CD was well received and will be officially launched in Kenya and internationally in 2013.

Maia represents another amazing side to Kenya’s dynamic musical scene. Her voice and style has an affinity with female jazz vocalists of the 1930s and soul and folk music of the 1960s. In all her compositions, Maia is blazing new trails in Kenya; experimenting with different styles, and creating a hybrid sound that is her very own.
Whether busking on street corners while backpacking around the world, or jamming with friends at university in Melbourne, Maia’s sound has developed from playing with musical talents from around the world, injecting her own personality, background and culture into her sound.
Her first single, Altered Light, was the result of collaboration with a funk bass player in Melbourne. Since then, Maia traveled to Berlin and continued writing, singing and collaborating before coming home to Kenya and continuing her work with artists, friends and producers. Drift, Maia’s first album, is a culmination of her travels, her meetings, her collaborations and her experiences; a global cross-pollinated vibe. Maia weaves her adventures, stories and memories with the help of young guitarist Kato Change, producing jazzy riffs with folk licks to soulful percussive dub, to produce a unique addition to Kenya’s music scene.
In Kenya, Maia has performed for numerous awareness campaigns including the Korogocho Slum Campaign and a UN (youth) campaign on awareness in Mathare and Kibera slums, raising money for various schools in those areas. Maia has also composed jingles for various advertisements in Kenya and Berlin and music composition for a South African/Canadian theatre production, Crossroads, that raises awareness in Africa on issues of rape, gender-based violence and HIV/AIDS (www.cmfd.org).
Her latest composition “Uko Wapi?” was featured in the much-acclaimed Kenyan production, “From a Whisper”, depicting events of the 1998 bombing in Kenya.
