In a plantation there is usually the illusion of an idyllic farming group. However, beneath its deceptive exterior, the Chola’s plantation is everything but calm. The Cholas are uptight and feel entitled to the land and the people that work their land. The farm workers have little or no rights, until one of them becomes a lawyer, and their re-education begins. Then the unthinkable happens – he falls in love with his family’s masters’ daughter. What follows is a dramatic musical adventure full of humor and tragedy.
This is the story of Rohio & Juliet, a Kenyan story loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the classical romantic tragedy. The musical aptly tackles issues most pressing to Kenyans. As we gear towards elections these are issues that we cannot afford to ignore and this dramatic musical puts a mirror in front of us with full doses of laughter, excitement, choreographed dance and original music by the Mamlaka Hill Chapel Drama team.
