About

Stories are created by being told. In telling narratives, stories are invented, passed on, changed and adapted. They wander through the world, are passed between persons and easily transcend man-made boundaries. In doing so, the story’s form changes, the narrative gains some details and loses others, while the focus and theme shifts.

The cities participating in this project are Johannesburg, Antananarivo, Nairobi, Kampala, Luanda, Yaoundé, Bamako and Abidjan.

All performances will be recorded, while independent juries critique the entries and select the best three performances. Their contributions are uploaded onto the online-platform in video format.

The full documentation can be found here: www.goethe.de/spokenword

Performing artists include: Checkmate Mido, Kennet B, El Poet, Wanjiku Mwaurah, Namatsi Lukoye, Raya Wambui, Dennis Inkwa, Oballa Dan, Asali and Monaja. There will be guest-performances by Julian Heun (Berlin) and Rehema Nanfuka (Kampala)

The spoken word performances in Nairobi will be judged by Sitawa Namwalie, Cindy Ogana and Wamathai.

In cooperation with Kwani Trust.
