Panel Debate: Food Security in Kenya, Feb 16 2010 @ Goethe-Institut

Panel Debate organized by FAO Kenya
16.02.2010 at 3pm – Entry Free
info: prog2@nairobi.goethe.org

The food security situation has been deteriorating and food security emergency support has been on the increase. How can we reverse the trend? Today in Kenya, almost 35 per cent of children under five are chronically undernourished (measured by stunting). Last year, the World Food Program targeted 3.8 million people for food assistance and as well as 1.5 million children for school feeding programs. Where have we gone wrong? What can we learn from food security programs undertaken so far? What should be the focus of government, humanitarian actors and development partners? Hear the experts, share your own knowledge and experience and ask questions!

Moderator of the discussion: Professor Ratemo Michieka of University of Nairobi
Panel members: Professor Jasper Imungi (Food Science and Nutrition, University of Nairobi) Dr. John Omiti (Senior Policy Analyst KIPPRA), Dr James Nyoro (MD Rockefeller Foundation, Kenya), Dr. John Mutunga (CEO Kenfap), Representative from Government to be confirmed.
