Cartoons by leading Kenyan cartoonists and ‘Kenya Burning’ photographs by Boniface Mwangi will graphically illustrate the path that must be avoided.
A series of short documentaries by ‘INFORM Action’ that specializes in film and community discussions, led by Maina Kiai, former Chairman of the Kenya National Human Rights Commission and UN Special Rapporteur on the Freedom of Assembly and of Association, will engage Kenyans on the persistent need to demand political and social accountability.
Skits and voice talents from the XYZ show together with musicians and comedians including Dan ‘Chizi’ Aceda, Winyo and Larry Asego will use their artistic expressions to emphasize the essence of the festival.

Concert/Event: Now I Know, Apr 16 2011 @ Eastleigh High School

The UNHCR would like to warmly invite you to an advocacy event that will take place on Saturday 16th of April, from 1 to 5 PM, in Eastleigh High School.
This event will see famous Kenyan public figures (Eric Wainaina, Eric Omondi and Jua Kali) performing together with Somali artists to start a new dialogue between the two communities and promote understanding for Somali refugees living in Kenya.
The theme of the event is NOW I KNOW, as Kenyans will hopefully leave the event thinking: ?Now I know why Somalis are here?, ?Now I know
what they feel?, ?Now I know what they have gone through?, ?Now I know a simple smile can help?.
This is the map of the venue of the event – click to enlarge it. Please note that UNHCR organized for security and ample parking space for all invitees.
Musical: Mo Faya – A Ghetto Story, until Dec 20 2009 @ GoDown
Eric Wainaina’s Mo Faya: “A Ghetto Story” is currently being performed at the GoDown; the highly entertaining musical drama gives us a slice of life in a ghetto in Kenya and features a lively mix of reggae and African rhythms coupled with energetic and highly compelling choreography, in a blend that is bound to light up the stage. The show runs every week, Wednesday to Sunday, until December 20th.
We have seen this show on November 18th, and it is absolutely fantastic. We can’t recommend it enough. Everyone should go see Mo Faya and support an exceptional Kenyan production which was acclaimed in recent shows in New York!
DJ Lwanda’s voice rings out daily on local radio, leading and inspiring the Nairobi community of Kwa Maji. But Anna Mali, an avaricious real estate diva, craves the land beneath their slum. She seduces the fiery young DJ away with a job at a top nationwide station, and organizes a violent campaign to terrorize the people of Kwa Maji. When the government and media turn a blind eye to the decapitated bodies in the streets, DJ Lwanda must return home to expose the truth. But at what cost?
Performed in English with Swahili.
