The British Council’s invites members of the creative Industry to a Public Lecture Series on Intellectual Property on Thursday 4th November 2010 at Strathmore University Auditorium.

The public lecture series aims to initiate an important link between the creative industries and the business community, a link that has great business and economic growth potential. This lecture series also offers the British Council an opportunity to interact with various practitioners of The Creative Industry, an opportunity that is aimed at drawing attention to this world of creative industry not only as a sector that addresses self expression, humanity, culture and identity, but more significantly for Strathmore University, as a resource with potential and capacity for business and economic growth. The Public Lecture Series aims at initiating dialogue between Business and the Creative Industries, and hopefully initiate a business and commercial perspective to “The Business of The Creative Industries”.

Intellectual Property (IP) in Kenya is one of the unknown areas of law. The value of IP has always been understated or ignored completely. It is however a key contributor to the social and economic development of a individual, a company and a country. The economic contribution from the creative industry is rarely documented and acknowledged. One of the ways that this can be achieved is through sensitization and open forums to encourage interaction between industry players, stakeholders and Government.
This Public Lecture is aimed at creating awareness of the legal framework that exists for the protection and enforcement of IP in Kenya, as well as the daily working tools that are required to ensure adequate protection of one’s IP.

This public lecture will give the participants the confidence and the peace of mind to commercially exploit their IP for economic gain.

This public lecture will be led by a panel of experts: Keith Arrowsmith, Anthony Okulo, June Gachui and Anne Gitonga.
